Ibibio Sound Machine – Anyone Like You
Ibibio Sound Machine opened their studio doors to Village Cuts, and the collaboration pays off in ways that push both artists forward. The “Anyone Like You” EP finds the Afrofuturist collective fusing their culture-clash approach with Village Cuts’ club-ready electronics.
Max Grunhard explains they’ve been hanging out in the studio throughout 2025, bonding over African-inspired rhythms and electronic textures. “Anyone Like You” arrives in three versions—the original, an extended mix with experimental breakdowns, and a club version where Village Cuts make everything darker and heavier with pitched vocals and extra percussive layers.
The production work shows real chemistry between collaborators. Village Cuts understands how to amplify Ibibio Sound Machine’s organic elements without drowning them in electronics. The club version doesn’t just add beats—it recontextualises the song’s emotional core for different environments, while maintaining the group’s distinctive cross-cultural DNA.
The collaboration makes sense for both acts. Ibibio Sound Machine gets to explore club-focused arrangements, while Village Cuts work with richer source material than typical dance music provides.
